Another week

Nicole once had a 'to do' list on her blog and the one thing that made me laugh was - feed the blog. I think mine has gone hungry this week so a hearty dinner is in order.

Chairs my Poppy Jack made when he was first married (he's now 92!). I am a quarter of the way through recovering them.

My mother's old tennis racquet.

My cousin gave me this frame for recycling paper. He was a great craftsman, wood turner, painter and furniture designer. So I love that he gave this to me.

Some new fabric with my grandfather's (one of them might be my Dad's) old rulers.

And a dress that didn't find a home. I had a batch made up recently and this one was the wrong size for a friend. It's a one of a kind and is looking for a good home. It's 100% cotton and Australian size 14/16 and is $90AUD. Just send me an email if you are interested (my email link is in my shop).

New bird in town

Picked up just a few of these this week. I'm trying out colourways and will also get some with the colours swapped around. There's only one linen piece (other piece went to a slightly stressed out Mum and I was glad the gift was given before our sons trashed one of her bedrooms).
I will be printing the owls below by the metre. Just figuring out what fabric to use and looking after sick kids.

Others

I'm not ALL about my own fabrics. Here's the proof - a packet of brightly coloured squares and some sale fabric from my local patchwork shop.

I live dangerously close to this shop (15mins walk). So it's pretty amazing that I restrain myself so often.
The squares became little doll quilts for a market I'm doing in September.

Textiles

Another friend has started a blog. Hurray! We have worked together in the fashion industry for a few years doing textile design. Now she is thinking about producing some stuff on her own and needs some opinions. So take a look at bkhdesign and let her know your thoughts.

Blogs

Just sharing a few blogs I like:

Sandwich Mountain - ceramics

Feffakookan - ceramics (beware: her new etsy shop is beautiful)

Julie Knoblock - illustration

Auntie Cookie - fabrics

tsk tsk - craft/illustration

Tomorrow I am going to a BUSINESS WOMEN’S NETWORK meeting. I've been asked to talk about blogs! Should be interesting since I don't like talking in front of more than one person. And Harry came home sick from school, so I might have a 7 year old on my lap too.

Bird creations

Here is a 'mollybirds' creation by Suzie. And there is the most gorgeous scarf over at La Mammina. If you have any pics you want to share of something you have made from my fabric, please email them to me!

The process

Inspiration.

Sketches.

More sketches.

And once the late night sketching has reached an end it gets scanned into the computer. From there the images go to photoshop, get cleaned up, sent to illustrator, coloured and put in repeat.
Once all the fun bits are done I then spend the next few weeks thinking about the printing quotes and costs, not so fun (oh yeah, and remembering to feed and dress the kids).
