Thrifting goodness

I have never had much fabric success at our local second-hand store. Today I had a mini jackpot with this fabric. After buying it I looked a little more closely and tried to figure out what language it might be. I know monkey does not start with 'g' and umbrella 'sch' in English. Can anyone help out and clue me in?

Hi!
I would say it's german:
umbrella- schirm (abbreviation for regenschirm)
apple- apfel
pear- birne
ducklings- ente
goose- gans
bike- radfahr
cat- katze
flower- blume
the z- I don't know, I don't speak german for a long time, I was born there but I came to portugal at the age of 8 because my parents are portuguese who emmigrated to germany... This kind of picture has some similarities with some books I had... Hope that I could help... And I like the fabric very much. Anxious to know what you're going to do with it. hug, manela

Hi, again!
in my guess the g doesn't refer to monkey but to smile "grinz" in german... the k is "korb" (basket) and after thinking a bit more I would free guess z is "zweig" (branch) I can't think of any fruit except for lemon (zitrone) that starts with z, these are blue...! v- vogel (bird) r- rose (the same as in English)
bye...

Ah I recognised the sch for Schirm from my very limited German but thanks for deciphering the others macati!! I wasn't doing so well at www.freetranslation.com but it is a handy site.

Hi there! Great fabric and I am pretty sure that it is German. I was confused by the "Z" going with the "Pflaume". But there is a very similar looking fruit called "Zwetsche" or in Southern Germany "Zwetschge". Delicious for cakes, by the way, and just the right season for them. What else is missing? "d" for Domino (name of the game), "r" for Rad (abbr. for Fahrrad; bicycle).
Fun fabric!

Greetings from Cologne, Germany
Elke

What a score! I never find fabric when I thrift either. I should be so lucky to break that streak with a find like this.

Bele, I think we have a winner! I thought it looked like a plum at first, but then I found this:

This fabric is great!

Hi!
after reading Elke's Zwetsche I realised that the word sounded familiar but I guess I would never remeber this word... and yes, the cake is very good... and the Käsekuchen... it's one of many memories from Germany... bye, manela
